In the autumn of 2002, in an old vaulted basement on St. Mary's Street, Cardiff, sodabar was born.

Sodabar was designed to meet the demand of a growing crowd of people who had become disenchanted by the corporate chains dominating the city. These people wanted a more personal, intimate experience; to hang out with friends and like-minded people in a stylish, yet comfortable environment; somewhere they could listen to good music, enjoy good drinks and experience good service. It was time for something different.

Sodabar fulfilled these aspirations, and as result its reputation grew and grew. This was due to a very loyal, musically intuitive and welcoming customer base that ranged from local business owners and their staff, young professionals and the media. The friendly, intimate atmosphere also became popular with both home-grown and international celebrities, as well as European royalty.

These people helped define sodabar and it soon became known as a great little club where you could guarantee an enjoyable, trouble-free night surrounded by familiar faces.

In January 2008, the original sodabar had to close it doors. Bearing in mind our members' and customers' wishes for improvements, we took sodabar out of its tiny basement and started the search for a bigger, better site.

In July 2008, our search brought us to a stunning first floor location on Mill Lane. Both spacious and light, it allowed us to fulfil the many requests we'd received over the years. Improvements such as a larger dance floor, staging for live acts and more seating became possible. As did a food menu, full waitress service and earlier opening hours.

This means sodabar can now offer both a lounge bar and club experience on par with clubs in other major cities for its customers, their guests and friends.
